David Albrecht named new president of Owatonna Hospital

OWATONNA, Minn. 08/14/2009--David Albrecht has been named the new president for Owatonna Hospital. Albrecht has been acting as interim president since July 4, 2009 along with his other responsibilities as director of operations and finance/assistant administrator. Albrecht has been with Allina Hospitals & Clinics since June 2006.

“David is well-known and highly regarded across the Owatonna Healthcare Campus and Allina, as well as the community,” said Ken Paulus, president & CEO of Allina Hospitals & Clinics CEO. “He brings more than 20 years of experience in finance, operations and administration.”

Prior to joining Owatonna Hospital, Albrecht was the interim chief executive officer of St. Joseph's Hospital, Huntingburg, Ind. He was previously executive vice president for Bellin Health, Green Bay, Wisc. where he led the operations of Bellin Hospital including its employed primary care medical group and an affiliated HMO. He began his career in public accounting serving numerous manufacturing and health care clients.

Albrecht's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in business administration/accounting from University Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a master's degree in business administration/health administration from the University of Colorado.

Albrecht is active in the community, including the Owatonna Rotary Club and host family for Rotary Foreign Exchange Student, Building Committee Chairman and Congregation President at Good Shepherd Lutheran and member of Owatonna Mayor’s Ad-hoc Hospital Reuse Task Force.

In addition, he is involved in various health care organizations including Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Albrecht’s appointment comes at a time in Allina’s history of building the newest replacement hospital in Minnesota. The pending opening of the new Owatonna Hospital at 7 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 completes a 10-year vision of creating an integrated healthcare campus with the Owatonna Clinic-Mayo Health system. He has been leading the construction project for the new facility as well as the implementation of the new electronic medical record.
