Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute brings brain cancer expert to Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 01/29/2009--Cancer is the number one cause of death in Minnesota. But far more people survive than die. Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute offers therapy specifically for cancer survivors, because cancer and treatment can cause disabling side effects.
"Cancer rehabilitation is now part of routine care at Allina, and we are pleased to share our program with Dr. Vargo and also be able to learn from such a renowned individual in our field," said Nancy Ash Hutchison, MD, Sister Kenny medical director for cancer rehabilitation and lymphedema.
Dr. Vargo, an associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Case Western Reserve University, has authored numerous papers and abstracts, including a book for the Institute of Medicine entitled From Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor - Lost in Transition.
