Buffalo Hospital offers two bike rodeos to keep kids safe

Buffalo, MN 05/10/2010--

Saddle up for Buffalo Hospital's Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Buffalo Hospital and on Saturday, May 22, at the St. Michael Fire Department.

Buffalo Hospital's emergency department is teaming up with Buffalo Police, the Wright County Sheriff's Office and the St. Michael Fire Department to help children learn the importance of bike riding safety. “The Bike Rodeo is going to be a fun event to teach and remind children to be safe while having fun on their bike,” says Buffalo Hospital’s emergency department patient care supervisor Margo Binsfield. “We often treat children in the emergency room after a bike accident and it can be scary for the child and their parent. If a child hits their head on a sidewalk or street, there is potential for a brain injury.”

Children can bring their bike and enjoy many fun activities, including learning the rules of the road, a bicycle obstacle course, helmet fittings, carnival games and prizes and lunch. Buffalo Hospital also will provide free bike helmets to children who need them while supplies last. The Bike Rodeo is entirely free thanks to donations from many community businesses and the United Way.

The Bike Rodeo in Buffalo will take place in the Surgery Center parking lot at Buffalo Hospital, 303 Catlin St., in Buffalo. The St. Michael Bike Rodeo will take place at the St. Michael Fire Department at 216 Main Street South.
