Allina’s Cambridge Medical Center Goes Wall-to-Wall Wireless
CAMBRIDGE, MINN. 07/10/2009--Cambridge Medical Center’s new high-speed wireless network is changing how the medical center does business and providing benefits for patients and visitors, too.
GuestNet is the new high-speed wireless Internet access system for Cambridge Medical Center patients and guests.
“Patients and visitors are now able to bring in their laptop computers and connect to the Internet while they are on site at Cambridge Medical Center,” said Mary Wahlburg, IS site manager. “It’s a service that has been well-received at other Allina sites and we expect our patients and visitors will appreciate it here as well.”
The service is free, but a username and password are required to access Cambridge Medical Center’s GuestNet. Usernames and passwords are obtained by calling extension 8080 inside the hospital. The username and password will change every month. Brochures on how to use the service are available to patients and visitors for the service that went online July 1.
Behind the scenes, the new wireless system is creating new efficiencies. The biggest impact is on the hospital’s supply chain management system.
“All supplies that come into our facility will be bar coded and scanned,” said Chris Southbloom, Cambridge Medical Center Materials Management manager. “This will allow us to track delivery throughout the medical center and make sure that each department is getting what they ordered.”
