Bob Harper, trainer from the Biggest Loser will speak at the Heart of New Ulm Summit Nov. 7.

Harper is a popular fitness expert, motivational speaker and author. Based on his experience helping individuals successfully lose weight and keep it off, he will speak to the community about what it takes to improve one’s lifestyle for good.

The Heart of New Ulm project is a 10-year initiative by Allina Hospitals & Clinics, the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation and New Ulm Medical Center to eliminate heart attacks in New Ulm, Minn.

More than 4,200 adults from the New Ulm community have been screened since April 2009. The goal is to screen 6,000 by the end of the year. At the second annual community summit, the results of the first year’s experience, along with the intervention plan over the next few years, will be unveiled.

Included will be the “community diagnosis,” which will outline what is driving heart attacks in the New Ulm area. Based on this evidence, a customized series of programs and services to address the unique New Ulm health risks will also be outlined.

The Heart of New Ulm summit is Saturday, Nov. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium at the District Administrative Center (former Middle School), 15 North State Street in New Ulm. Harper will sign copies of his book, Are You Ready! Take Charge, Lose Weight, Get in Shape and Change Your Life Forever from 6 to 7 p.m.

The summit is free, open to the public and no registration is necessary. For more information, call the Heart of New Ulm project office at 507-233-1945 or go to www.heartofnewulm.org.
