Mental Health Symposium Oct. 2 at Allina's Mercy Hospital
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. 09/23/2008--The effects of mental illness are far-reaching in our society. Spiritual advisors and caregivers are often in a position to offer valuable guidance in discovering services and offering support for those touched by mental illness.
The Spirit of Hope in Mental Health Symposium for clergy, faith community lay ministry teams, seminarians, chaplains and hospital care providers is Thursday, October 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, 4050 Coon Rapids Blvd. in Coon Rapids. It is co-sponsored by the Spiritual Care and Clinical Pastoral Education department and the Mental Health staff of Mercy and Unity hospitals.
The symposium will provide an overview of mental illness and the process of assessment and referral in a critical or crisis situation. Participants will gain valuable insight into the medical and spiritual care of patients with mental illness and a panel of patients and family members will share their experiences.
The cost of the symposium is $20 and continuing education credits are available. Contact Sue Lingquist, 763-236-8050 to register. Pre-registration is preferred, but not required.
