Abbott Northwestern Hospital to provide care for our region's veterans through Project HERO, a program of Humana Veterans Healthcare Services
MINNEAPOLIS 11/11/2008--Abbott Northwestern Hospital announced today that it has signed a contract with Humana Veterans Healthcare Services to support health care delivery to veterans in the region through a demonstration initiative called Project HERO (Healthcare Effectiveness through Resource Optimization).
Under the new Project HERO contract with Humana Veterans Healthcare Services, Abbott Northwestern will be a preferred provider hospital for veterans with the support of more than 20 private practice groups and physicians on the Abbott Northwestern Medical Staff. Abbott Northwestern is the only hospital in the Twin Cities under contact with Humana to provide veterans with medical and surgical, diagnostic, rehabilitation and other health care services.
Abbott Northwestern will offer care when the services are not specifically available for patients at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The Minneapolis VA will continue to be the primary medical provider for veterans in the region, and Abbott Northwestern will offer specialized care or services when needed.
Abbott Northwestern will offer veterans a wide range of services including specially care in orthopedic surgery, ear, nose and throat, neurosurgery, spine surgery, rehabilitation through Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, radiology and imaging services and more. Many private practice groups with physicians on the Abbott Northwestern Medical Staff have agreed to be part of the network providing medical services to veterans through the Humana contract.
