St. Francis Regional Medical Center appoints new president
SHAKOPEE, Minn. 05/18/2007--Michael Baumgartner has been appointed the next president of St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Baumgartner is expected to join St. Francis on or about July 9, 2007. He succeeds Tom O'Connor, who left St. Francis to become president of Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn.
Baumgartner has served as president of St. Francis Hospital and Health Services in Maryville, Missouri since January 1997. His organization is a member of SSM Healthcare, which is a Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award winner and considered one of the most progressive health care systems in the nation. Under Baumgartner's leadership, the hospital received its second Missouri Quality Award in 2004. Baumgartner oversaw the renovation and expansion of the hospital and was highly successful in recruiting physicians to Maryville. Under his watch, St. Francis flourished, with some of the highest employee and patient satisfaction scores in the system.
Prior to his time at St. Francis in Maryville, Baumgartner was the president and chief executive officer of Carrington Health Center in Carrington, North Dakota. Carrington Health Center is a member of Catholic Health Corporation. In this position, Baumgartner improved quality across both inpatient and ambulatory care settings. Further, he accomplished this from the perspective of a key operating entity within a successful health care system.
