Seasonal flu vaccine appointments delayed at Cambridge Medical Center
CAMBRIDGE, MINN. 10/13/2009--Allina's Cambridge Medical Center announced it is postponing scheduled seasonal flu vaccine appointments for October 13 though October 16 due to lack of vaccine supply.
"The demand placed on vaccine manufacturers who have been called to produce both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccines has caused a delay in the delivery of the seasonal flu vaccine we expected to have on hand by now," said Jon Ward, clinic director for Cambridge Medical Center. "We have no option but to cancel these seasonal flu vaccine appointments. We will reschedule them when we are sure the vaccine will be available."
Ward emphasized that everyone who wants a seasonal flu vaccine should be able to receive one, just not immediately.
Cambridge Medical Center is calling all patients with scheduled seasonal flu vaccine appointments to let them know that their appointment has been postponed. They will be contacted again to reschedule when vaccine becomes available.
"The vaccine supply situation is very fluid and is affecting all of Minnesota and the country," Ward said. "We will cancel appointments from week to week based on the supply situation. If you haven't received a call from us, you should keep your appointment."
Ward noted the good news is that only a couple cases of seasonal flu have been detected in Minnesota, so far, and that regular flu season doesn't typically take hold until much later in the fall.
