Buffalo Hospital receives $225,000 gift for new $7.1 million Birth Center
Buffalo, Minn. 10/15/2008--Buffalo Hospital is $225,000 closer to breaking ground on a new Birth Center, thanks to a generous gift from Buffalo Clinic P.A.
Buffalo Hospital Foundation is working to raise the final $1 million dollars needed to build a new $7.1 million Birth Center. With Buffalo Clinic P.A.'s donation, the hospital expects to break ground this year, with the new center opening in 2009.
"This incredibly generous gift exemplifies the strong partnership we have with the Buffalo Clinic," says Karla Heeter, Buffalo Hospital Foundation Executive Director. "A new birth center is critical to serving our patients and this community. With this gift, we'll be able to create a healing environment that is comfortable and more private for parents as they celebrate the birth of a child. The new center will reflect the exceptional care our doctors and nurses provide."
A larger, more modern Birth Center is needed to keep up with the growing community. In 2007, 611 babies were born at Buffalo Hospital – an 8 percent increase from 2006 – and up to 1,500 annual births are projected by 2015. The new birth center will be twice the current size and 16 patient rooms will be named in honor of Buffalo Clinic P.A.
"Meeting the needs of our growing community is part of our core mission and warrants our financial support," says Thomas Minke, MD, OB/GYN, Buffalo Clinic. "We are very excited to be part of making the vision of a new Birth Center a reality."
Highlights of the new Birth Center include:
- More than doubling the size of the current birth center to nearly 16,000 feet.
- Larger labor and deliver rooms to accommodate the latest technology.
- Spacious, post-delivery rooms that are peaceful and soothing.
- A cesarean-section operating room and labor assessment/monitoring room.
- Women's health resource center.
- Family lounge, complete with a sibling play area.
- Level II nursery for babies born prematurely at 33 weeks to full term.
More donations needed
Buffalo Hospital employees have donated nearly $150,000 to help fund the new Birth Center. Additional donations from doctors and private donors have raised nearly $125,000 so far.
