The 2009 Harvest Moon Barn Dance will be on Saturday, October 3.
The 2008 Harvest Moon Barn Dance was a great success, raising about $75,000. More than 350 people joined us for an evening of great food, live music and dancing. Net proceeds of the event were used to support the following two programs, both of which provide residents of our region with critical health care services.
The Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties provides medical services to individuals with no health care alternative. Since opening in April of 2007, the weekly clinic has provided care to uninsured, low income individuals from throughout our region. Proceeds from this event will support the general operating expenses of the Free Clinic
The Pierce County Public Health Department’s school-based dental clinics provide dental cleanings and sealants to uninsured low-income children at schools in Elmwood, Spring Valley, Plum City and Ellsworth. Proceeds from this event will support the equipment and staffing needed to expand the program to include exams, prophylaxis and fluoride, and to bring the program to a school in River Falls.
A special thank you to our event sponsors!

What is the River Falls Area Hospital Foundation?
The River Falls Area Hospital Foundation is a local nonprofit organization established in 1978 to raise funds to support the River Falls Area Hospital and other community health initiatives.
All funds raised by the Foundation will support the hospital, which in turn works to meet the health needs of the community. The Foundation also has a scholarship program for individuals pursuing careers in health care. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $200,000 in grants and scholarships.
A contribution to the River Falls Area Hospital Foundation is an investment in your health and your community. Contributions are used to:
- Purchase medical instruments and equipment;
- Support facility enhancements;
- Support helath-related programs of local nonprofits;
- Support local community health initiatives;
- Support area residents pursuing a career in the health care profession.
Why does the hospital need my support?
River Falls Area Hospital is a nonprofit organization that reinvests its profits to improve its services and facilities.
Many of the programs that work best to improve health are not covered by insurance companies. When a service is covered, reimbursement is often less than what it cost the hospital to provide the care. In addition, more and more of our patients are uninsured and unable to pay for the care they receive, resulting in unprecedented increases in charity care write-offs and bad debt. Collectively, these forces have decreased the resources available to help the hospital grow and respond to the needs of this region. Now, more than ever, the hospital needs a hospital foundation to help provide top level health care and preventive health care progrms. As a nonprofit hospital, we are committed to serving every person who walks through our door, regardless of their insurance coverage or financial resources.
The River Falls Area Hospital Foundation provides critical financial support to the hospital, helping us maintain the highest levels of care and service to all of our patients, whatever their situation.
How can I make a difference?
Your tax-deductible contribution will help to secure improved health care for our entire community for many decades to come. There are many ways to give:
- Cash, check, or credit card;
- Tribute gifts in honor of a friend or loved one, or in their memory;
- Gifts of appreciated stock may offer you substantial tax advantages;
- Sponsorship opportunities are available for the annual Harvest Moon Barn Dance;
- Join us at the Harvest Moon Barn Dance on Saturday, October 3, 2009 - and bring your friends and neighbors;
- Planned giving involves the gifting of one's assets (rather than current income) and can include estate planning, life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, and gifts of real estate.
- Workplace giving programs, including the United Way, often allow you to “write in” the River Falls Area Hospital Foundationwhen you make your commitment;
- Matching gift programs, which many employers use to encourage charitable giving by their employees and retirees; check with your employer to see if your gift can be matched.
The River Falls Area Hospital Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All contributions to the foundation are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
The Foundation occasionally calls residents of the region to inform them of giving opportunities. Questions about these calls should be directed to foundation director Heather Logelin at 426-4503.
